Remembrance Sunday – 2024

On Sunday, 10th November, communities across Woodmansey, Dunswell and Beverley joined millions around the country to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the two world wars, but also countless conflicts across the world since then

Woodmansey Parish Council is proud and honoured to be part of this commemoration of remembrance – Cllrs Kerri Harold, Phil Bown and Claire Levy laid a wreath on behalf of the Parish at the Woodmansey Memorial,  Cllrs Andy Brown and Dave Shores laid a wreath at the Dunswell Memorial and finally Cllrs Harry Bulmer and Roy Begg laid a wreath at the Beverley service.

Our photos and videos show the respect, esteem and gratitude of those who attended the respective services and commemorations to remember the fallen

Special mentions should be made to the following:

Anne Loss and the ladies of the Countrywomen for the poppy displays at both St Peter’s Church and Dunswell.  Also the lovely displays by the children of Dunswell Academy and playgroup

Dawn Pollard and all those who made St Peter’s Church so lovely and respectful

Reflecting the rural history of our Parish, horse riders from Skidby Carr Farm, Sicey Cottage Farm and Hampston Hill Livery who paid their respects at both Dunswell and Woodmansey

Finally, special mention to the grand daughter of Les Ransom RIP, veteran of the Parish who laid wreath in his memory

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
