The Parish Council has been lobbying ERYC for some time now about the state of Long Lane, dirty signage and considerable amounts of greenery / tree debris which has been knocked down onto the road and verges mostly by the large construction vehicles now using Long Lane.
Residents will also remember Cllrs invited the British Horse Society to a Parish Meeting to discuss concerns for the safety of horse riders on the road due to increased traffic and the Society recommended that the lane would benefit from improved signage.
Cllrs had approached ERYC to send out an officer to join them on a walkabout on the road to see the problem for themselves, but we regret ERYC have declined this invitation and instead stated clearing of fallen tree branches etc is the responsibility of landowners.
Cllrs discussed this update at the February meeting and expressed disappointment at the response from ERYC – however, it was accepted that the Parish Council had no further remit in this matter and that Cllrs had done everything they could, but ERYC were not prepared to work with them in the matter.
Cllrs are continuing to try and improve Long Lane with better signage (as below) and installing ‘Welcome Gateways’ similar to the one below which remind drivers Long Lane remains a designated ‘quiet road’
